Taiwan long known for the creation of electronics is now home to a new industry network dedicated to eliminating all kinds of electronic waste. Unlike traditional forms of waste, e-waste combines many kinds of materials and mixes highly valuable metals, especially rare earth metals, with less economic plastics. Each year we throw away over 40 million tons of e-waste, wasting an estimated US$ 50 billion in economic value. This massive waste come from an inability for global markets to develop effective supply chains for the precious metals trapped inside circuit boards and plastic.
