As a long time participant in COP, Taiwan has been dedicated to promoting sustainable industry practices for more than two decades. We introduced the Government Procurement Act to the public sector in 1998, which was Asia’s first mandatory green purchasing accord. In 2009, the Renewable Energy Act was promulgated to create a comprehensive legal framework and improve low-carbon energy systems. Finally, in June this year, the Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Management Act was passed by the Legislature, setting a significant milestone for increasing Taiwan’s capacity to address global climate change. These various actions have encouraged the domestic green industry to flourish and develop strong green competitiveness. To promote international trade of green products and services, the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) launched the Green Trade Promotion Project in 2011. One of the efforts under this project is the annual publication of the Taiwan Eco-products Directory by the project office. It registers Taiwanese companies and their high-quality products which are made in Taiwan and have obtained authorized environmental labeling or certification. In this year’s edition, 476 eco-products and 9 eco-services from 188 Taiwanese companies are included. I am extremely pleased to see the publication of this year’s Directory, which demonstrates the continued and concerted efforts of Taiwan to contribute to the development of a more resilient, low-carbon economy.
